Yachting - 2026 season: Why wait for a miracle when you can book your boat now?

The sailor's dilemma: Book now or wait for discounts?

You're facing that classic dilemma, aren't you? It's like Sophie's Choice, except instead of children, you're dealing with your wallet and deadlines. Should you book a boat for next season now, when it's still freezing outside like in a Russian movie, or wait like a vulture for discounts just before the season?

We can go through the pros and cons together, but honestly? It's a bit like betting on the lottery. I didn't buy plane tickets for a penny, but I know that everyone wants to save money. The question is, at what cost?

Disadvantages and risks of last-minute booking

If you are one of those adrenaline junkies who wait until the last minute and reserve a boat at a time when other crews are already packing their bags and sitting in their cars or planes heading for the marina, I have news for you. You will probably get a discount. Really. But there is a big, fat BUT. And not just one.

1. Limited selection: You probably won't be able to choose the boat you want. The best ones, the      most desirable models, will be long gone. You'll be left with the "leftovers" that no one wanted.      It's like someone hitting you over the head with a club a minute after the sale opens – take what      you can get or take nothing.

2. Logistical hell: You may have to set sail from a completely different marina than you originally        intended. Did you want Split so you could be close to the airport? Bad luck, the only boat                  available is in Dubrovnik. So you'll enjoy a beautiful, extra few hours of travel.

3. Loss of benefits: If you prefer a certain charter company because you've had good                          experiences with them, their boats are in good condition, or you get a discount as a regular              customer, you may end up losing out. Your favorite company will already be sold out, and you'll      end up with someone you've never heard of.

Why it pays to plan ahead for yachting in 2026

If, on the other hand, you are one of those who like certainty and don't want to stress yourself out, know that it is better to choose while there is still plenty to choose from. Yachting should be about relaxation, not about praying that at least one toilet on the boat will work.

It's nice to sit down and write down your preferences. Booking early gives you the luxury of choice. Do you want a boat with air conditioning because you refuse to sweat like a pig? You got it. Do you want a specific model from 2025? No problem.

Safety first: How to verify your boat reservation

Another big "BUT" is who you book your boat through. The world of the internet is the Wild West, and yachting in 2026 will be no exception.

We have already encountered a situation where a client (fortunately not ours, phew) paid for a boat and just before departure was informed that the boat was not available. It simply disappeared, or there was a "double booking." You then stand on the pier with your suitcase, the children are crying, and you look like you've lost your mind.

Good advice is worth its weight in gold – ask the company you are renting the boat from to send you confirmation that the booking for your chosen boat is really yours. In black and white. This will help you avoid the unpleasant surprise of having nothing to sail on. Trust, but verify, as they say.

Final tips for a successful start to the season

Does this mean that last minute is always bad? Not necessarily. But it does mean that you are risking the quality of your vacation for a few euros saved. In any case, thanks to early planning, I gain peace of mind.

So, my dear sailors, don't hesitate. Yachting 2026 awaits, and the best boats won't be moored in ports forever. Choose your beauty in time so you don't have to settle for a tub.

See you at sea! Bye!

Skradin Itinerary: The Best of the Town and the National Park

When my boss sent me an email with the subject line “ASAP” for the sixth time that day, I knew it was time to get out of there. Anywhere with no cell service, where the only deadline is sunset. I chose Croatia. But not the typical kind, where you fight for a spot to lay your towel at the campsite. I wanted something more. And so my personal Skradin itinerary was born—a plan for a week-long escape from reality, where the wind in my hair and the salt water on my skin take center stage.

Yachting in Corsica: Discover the most beautiful coves and wild nature

When the captain of our crew announced over a beer last winter, “This year we’re going yachting in Corsica, guys,” I pictured the usual sunbathing, the occasional grilled fish, and calm seas. How wrong I was! Corsica, that rugged “Island of Beauty,” doesn’t give you anything for free. But what it offers you in exchange for a little sailor’s sweat will stay with you forever.

Sailing and freediving: The perfect harmony of wind and silence beneath the surface

For sailors, the sea is a place of endless adventure and freedom. At the same time, however, this dynamic environment presents unexpected challenges that require quick reactions, a cool head, and specific skills. That is precisely why sailing and freediving are becoming an increasingly popular and natural combination. This sport, known for its simplicity and effectiveness, offers sailors much more than just a recreational activity—it is a key tool for safety, problem-solving, and a deeper connection with the ocean.
